A traveler without observation is a bird without wings.

The first postcard was mailed in 1840, and the popularity of picture postcards increased in the late-1800s through to the 1950s. Now, Instagram or Pinterest are the most popular image-sharing methods for travellers. Why do we love travel pictures so much? Photographs take a moment of a fleeting experience and make it last. They become our memories. But beyond posting travel photos, I am sharing my paintings and mixed-media pieces—all of which are inspired by the places I see. I like experimenting with artistic styles influenced by the places I visit. I use painting and photography to show my feelings and impressions of a place.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.
— Marcel Proust

This is not a typical travel blog. In addition to the hows (like must-do lists and travel guides), I am more interested in the whys. I am driven to travel by curiosity. Curiosity about how other people live their lives, how families set up their homes, how cities function. Beyond the stories about my experiences, I love doing research in order to fully understand a place and its people. Expect links to news stories and references to books and documentaries. Expect stories about politics and religiontwo topics we are constantly reminded never to talk about with strangers, but for me, those are my go-to conversations with people I meet.
